The Chancel Choir rehearsals are held on Thursdays from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The choir sings for the 11:00 service from the Sunday after Labor Day until Memorial Day weekend. The choir sings a wide range of music in the “classical” style including music from J.S. Bach to more contemporary composers such as John Ness Beck and arrangements of spirituals. Chancel choir members learn the basics of good choral singing including: breath support, proper diction, posture, music reading and ensemble participation. The choir is open to all that would like to participate and can make the needed time commitment.
The Carol Choir and Celebration Choir are part of our LOGOS program and rehearse on Wednesday afternoons. The choirs are open to all member children from preschool through fifth grade. The choirs sing regularly at both services of worship during the school year, as well as participate in either a pageant or musical.
The Mid-High Worship Team, in additional to singing in the LOGOS Worship Team, experience acting in dramas, playing in the LOGOS Bell Choir, participating as liturgists during worship and learning how to be worship leaders.
Our Four+ Octave Set of Schulmerich Handbells is the finest quality, has a crystal clear tone and will accommodate a bell choir of 15 ringers.
The Sanctuary Organ at Northbrook is a vital part of the congregation’s worship, with a beautiful palette of voices to accompany solos, anthems and congregational singing as well as the capability to perform a large body of classical organ répértoire. The organ was built by the M.P. Möller company of Hagerstown, Maryland and completed in 1987. Since 1987, a host of electronic additions including MIDI capability has been added. The Maas-Rowe Carillon is a constant reminder of the time as well as an inspiration as it peals and plays many familiar hymns and spiritual songs. Additionally, Northbrook is home to an extensive Music Library which consists of large choral works from the great masters, orchestral works, many contemporary selections and a large number of children’s musicals. It is in itself a testament to the love for music the people of Northbrook have.
